A workout, a GREAT book, and How to Watch a Movie

A Workout…

Yesterday was my “rest day”. I use ” ” because I discovered that moving out of an apartment is most definitely not a rest day. So no, I did not run. But boy did a I lift/pull/carry/drag/shove/stuff boxes, couches, tables, night-stands, desk, book cases, kitchen-gadgets, futon, t.v, coffee table, etc, into an increasingly  small Uhaul truck. WOW. I was a sweaty, banged up mess! I have scrapes and bruises all up and and down my legs as sacrificial wounds as I used every body party to control an over-sized couch from tumbling down a flight of stairs and killing my dad or uncle.

wpid-IMG_20130813_075341.jpg

UHaul truck had Colorado license plates. A sure sign that I need to move out there ASAP. (as if I was looking for more reasons??) But no… I am headed back to Bloomington, IN. Fun, fun.

Running did not happen (hence the rest day) but boy am I feeling the effects of yesterday’s move this morning! My hamstrings are on FIRE!! Time to Roll baby Roll!! ((I am getting squeamish just imagining how badly the foam roller is going to hurt my hammy’s…usually a sure sign of needing to do it though))

I came home from loading up the UHaul and handing over my keys to the apartment complex and proceeded to sleep for 2 hours straight!

A Great Book…

With my dad as the most wonderful dad ever for driving down and back to help with the packing process, I was able to relax in the car read what is quickly becoming my favorite book!!

wpid-IMG_20130812_161530.jpg

Getting it from Half Price Books for 6.50$ made it even better 🙂 This man is CRAZY!!! I was hooked from the first chapter when he orders a large Hawaiian pizza and an entire cheese cake while out on a 100+ mile run and asks the delivery guy to “look for the guy running down the road…” Love it. He makes such a point of how essential food is. It is so great for me to read about a guy who’s thought process is “Food is fuel. If I want to run far, I need fuel.” Plain and Simple, baby. It is such a quick read and I highly recommend it to someone wanting a book they can easily read in little intervals of 5 minutes hear, 5 there ((i.e for the busy person who finds a few minutes throughout the day to open a page).

…and How to Watch a Movie

Last night I saw “We Are the Millers”— loved it! Very funny! Not as funny as “The Heat” (which killed me with laughter, by the way) but still a great fast moving comedy with some fun characters! The best part of the movie, however, was the theater in which I watched it. They are redoing their entire cinema…everything from the bathrooms, sound system, screen quality, seats, lighting, etc is being revamped.  They are making it a Cinema Bar and Grill type where you can order a great dinner and drinks while you watch.

While the food service is not up and running yet, they do have the seats/screens/sounds ready to go. The verdict??— It was the best movie experience I have ever had. The seats were huge and leather and nicer than my lazy boy at home. No joke. The surround sound made me feel like I was in the movie, and the screen quality was so top-notch that I felt like I was hanging out in the theater with the real Jennifer Aniston (one day!)

I mean check out these seats!!! My bum was Oh So happy… 🙂

I hope to get in a medium slow run today (8 miles?) and just relax and roll out my legs!

Have a great Wednesday everyone! Go forth and be Awesome!

  1. Good morning Andrea……I read “Ultra Marathon Man” and enjoyed it as much as you. A few other running books you might enjoy are: “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running,” by Haruki Murakami….”Eat and Run,” by Scott Jurek….”14 Minutes,” by Alberto Salazar. All excellent books…at least in my opinion.

    1. Thanks for the awesome suggestions! Those all sound interesting and like something I would enjoy! I will let you know which one I choose 🙂

  2. All of Dean Karnazes’ books are amazing reads–he is incredible! And I have to comment on the Colorado thing–I was just in Boulder last week for my sister’s wedding and have decided that I am 100% moving out there as soon as I finish school next year 🙂

    1. I didn’t know there were others! I am so pumped to check them out now! YAY isn’t colorado just the greatest? I mean any of the western states rock in my opinion, because life is just BETTER with mountains around 🙂 I am definitely doing all my job hunting over “that way”! Maybe we will run into eachother out there!
      Sisters wedding!–how fun!

Sometimes moving is a better workout than a real one- and a good way to get through a rest day 😉

    1. Yes it was!! I realized how much I was lifting and pushing and pressing… definitely a great workout!
And like you said… kept me occupied and from going “crazy” with no workout!
Hope your runs and spinning is still going well 🙂 Have a good one!

  4. Girlfrannnn moving is like, the most intense all over body workout ever… I feel ya on that one. 🙂 Good stuff…
I want to see the Heat SO BAD! I am glad you loved it, that’s basically all I’ve heard about it too! YAY! Enjoy your run today pretty face!

    1. hahaha Girlfannnn you are RIGHT!! Total body exhaustion!

Go see The Heat! Stop writing right now… and GO!! I loved it!!! I am seeing it again with my friend next week!
Thanks darling the run was GREAT! Hope you get a good sweat on today as well!! xox

I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie in the theaters but that looks awesome! I would definitely go more often if I could recline and order real food 🙂

    1. I know.. I think it should be a requirement in all theaters. I am going again tonight…I’m hooked. And if you are looking for a movie to see… go see The Heat! it is seriously hilarious!

  6. I keep forgetting that I am moving this week too! Thankfully for me, my dad and boyfriend are doing the majority of the moving while I am at work one day (I’m extremely grateful to them for this!) As for books, I just finished 50/50 a couple weeks ago and really liked it – I want to read UltraMarathon Man too, but wasn’t sure if the two books were really similar or not? I’m about to start Running for Women! Hope you have a great run today!

    1. WOW!!! That is so great of them! Ya I am totally OK that I don’t have a boyfriend…but it is times like these that I would LOVE ONE!! Help me lift/move!! You got a couple of awesome guys right there 🙂

Someone else recommended 50/50! I am not sure if they are similar or not, but I def recommend Ultramarathon Man! I will check out 50/50 and let you know what I think!!
And my run was awesome! Thanks for asking 🙂

  7. We have a few dine-in movie theaters in Charlotte, and I’m obsessed. Our service isn’t great, either, but it’s such a weird feeling to be eating something like a burger…in a movie theater. I’m obsessed. I drag my boyfriend there every chance I get!

    -H

    1. Ha I know what you mean! I am sure I would quickly get used to eating yummy food while being entertained… I mean lets be honest! Sounds awesome!

  8. um, that theater seriously looks awesome!!! I like watching movies at home, but the theater is fun now and then too. It just depends 🙂
I’m currently reading “Born to Run” (yeah…still reading it. I don’t have a ton of down time right now haha) and it’s amazing. Loving it.
Yay for being all packed up!! Half way there 🙂 and yeah you totally do need to move out west. Pronto.

    1. This theater is great– downside to ANY movie theater of course is the cost!! Ahhh so expensive!

Oh girl… I have been “reading” Born to Run for like a year! I lOVE it i just keep getting so so busy and forgetting it in circumstances when it would have been perfect to read it… ughh I will get through it one day! haha

Don’t worry– I am heading west ASAP!! ((asap of course being in 3 semesters…boo grad school!))

      1. That’s not too long! You can do it! You can do it! Then you have the rest of your life to hang out in our mountains out here 🙂

  9. I want to see “We’re the Millers” so bad! I just finally saw Django and I really liked it…especially because my friends and I went all out for the movie night (aka great snacks). Those nights are the best!

    1. Django is awesome! I love Quenten Tarintino movies! He is insane and i love it! haha

Ohh an all out movie night sounds grand! That is definitely how I like to do it if I am with friends– go big or go home– aka tortilla chips/salsa for DAYSSSS 🙂
Yes, go see We’re The Millers! Great fun!

Just discovered your blog and am loving it! I also was dying while watching the heat…may be my favorite so far

    1. Hey girl! Thanks for stopping by!! Oh my gosh right!! The Heat was sooo funny! Melissa McCarthy just KILLED ME! I have never laughed so hard in a theater before.. I was probably very annoying but did not care! So glad you saw it and liked it!

Have a great evening and thanks so much for commenting 🙂

This is awesome!! I definitely have to try that book, it sounds so motivating! Love that you’re keeping in mind that food is fuel 🙂 Our bodies can’t run on empty! I’m dying to see We’re the Millers! It looks hysterical! The Heat is in its own league though 😉

    1. Read it! It is very fast and a good one to just carry with you in the car/purse and bust out whenever you have a chance!
Yes go see We’re the Millers… definitely entertaining and fun ((but you are right… NOTHING will beat The Heat this summer!!))
Have a great great evening girl and hope you are relaxing a bit before school starts up again!!

  12. Moving is the best non-workout workout ever! Seriously, we moved the weekend I ran my second half marathon in May and I was absolutely exhausted and ridiculously sore for it. That was a fun race, let me tell ya 😛 I have no running books to recommend, since I have yet to try one out myself, but yours sounds awesome! Definitely checking it out at the library when I’m done with my current read! I love going to the movies, especially when they’re nice like your theater sounds! We don’t go very often (there haven’t been a ton of movies out that I really want to see, especially considering how expensive they are!), but I’m hoping to change that slightly since there seem to be a bunch coming out in the next few months I want to see 🙂

    1. Oh my gosh girl I can’t IMAGINE running a half after moving! Power to ya!
This is a fun, quick read and great for busting out whenever you have the time!
Yes downside to movie theaters…. EXPENSIVE. Seriously pains me when I hand over 10$ for a movie. Oh well…some movies you just gotta see on the big screen!! Yes this fall there are some great movies! I can’t wait to use them as study breaks!
      Have a great night!

  13. I love the idea of a cinema bar and grill. Never heard of that before, but maybe if I lived by one of those, I wouldn’t be tempted to sneak a burger and fries in the movies in my purse.

    1. hahahaha niceeeee 🙂 I am all about sneaking things into theaters– although never did a burger and fries! I did manage a Lean Cuisine one time though.. that was difficult!
Cinema Bar and Grills are great! I highly recommend going to one if you find one! Worth it at least once!

  14. I just started reading “Eat and Run” by Scott Jurek and it’s making me want to run an Ultra! But first I need to finish a normal marathon haha. I loved “the Heat.” “The Millers” is on my list; I’m glad to hear it’s good!

    1. I have never heard of “Eat and Run”! I love reading those types of books though because you are literally on the edge of the seat trying to stop yourself from lacing up your shoes right then and there! I will have to check out that book! Thanks for the suggestion!
We’re the Millers is great– but just know that The Heat is still the best!

  15. Love the book, love the license plate! I do NOT love moving 🙂
It totally counts as a workout!

    1. The BIG move day ((aka moving things Uphill to the 2nd floor rather than moving things DOWNhill from the 2nd floor)) is on Saturday. I am literally dreading it.. but know once it is done I will have a nice new place to relax in!

Yes that license plate made my day 🙂

  16. WE’RE THE MILLERS IS SO FREAKING GOOD. I have lines from that movie I had to write down because they were that hilarious

    1. hahah awesome! Ya my mom and I were loving it 🙂 GREAT one-liners from there!
