Classy Parties and Sweaty Workouts

My grandmother looks and acts unlike any grandmother I have ever met.

First of all, she looks about 20 years younger than she is. Seriously, she looks amazing. And she is as active as ever. Swims, walks, bikes, golfs, plays tennis….And of course she dresses better than me and most of my friends.

She lives in a very cool, big house in Indianapolis that is known for its “posh” society and wealthy families. The houses in this community are old and beautiful and extremely unique in design.

Even her friends are interesting and beautiful and powerful. Big time lawyers, museum curators, investment bankers, emergency room physicians… one of her friends is Russian and a retired balarina while another is Polish and an extremely gifted surgeon.

And my Grandmother throws classy parties, as well, fully stocked with alcohol, a bar tender, and a waitress. They are way out of my league…

Wild salmon, cheese on cheese on cheese, summer sausage, peppers, tomatoes, crackers, olives, and of course BOOZE to the hearts desire…

A poor and awkward shot by me as I tried not to draw attention. The back yard with the bar tender on the right. He was awesome 🙂

Last night my mom, dad, and I went to one.  They aren’t particularly fun for me since I know no one and am a good 30 years younger than the next person in age (who in fact are usually my parents), but none-the-less the parties are a reason to put on mascara and NETWORK. Yes, I am a graduate student who is ALWAYS looking to get a shoe in anywhere I can. And her parties are the perfect place to meet important powerful people. Last night could have been a BIG breakthrough in that department, but I don’t want to say anymore until I do a little research and emailing!

Here are some more pics from the party!

My mom on the far left, then grandmother, then me! Oh ya, her parties always have name tags written in calligraphy. Standard.

Now that I have told you about my grandmother, doesn’t this “hand chair” just seem fitting??

She of course hired a bartender (and waitress) but look how Pintrest-y she is with her “ice-bucket”…adorable.

I have not allowed myself to run since I broke all the rules and ran 5.2 miles on July 4th (I mean in was my country’s birthday… I did it for her.) But I have been lifting lots of weights, doing the stair climb machine, and taking spinning classes to try and get back into shape!! I was so so sore for a few days after returning from Michigan (see recap HERE). But I have been loving it!

I am really focused on the lifting aspect, because although I have been lifting weights for a while now, I haven’t been able to put on any muscles because I am not feeding myself enough for my body to build any. So I am really hoping that now since I am eating like a boss, the muscle will also be developing!

Today I hope to get in a stair climb workout followed by some weights! (And of course for me the real challenge, is to be OK with myself if I DON’T get a workout in…)

Have a GREAT Sunday everyone!

Ever go to classy parties WAY out of your league?

What is your workout today? Rest day?

Your grandmother is awesome! I have a grandmother like that – acts way younger than she is- but she doesn’t throw classy parties like that. It really is the best way to network 🙂 I think it’s probably a good decision not to run until the doctors tell you it’s okay but as soon as they give you the thumbs up, you’ll be ready!

    1. haha yay for awesome grandmas!!! That is totally how we will be! — except also running marathons still 🙂
I am taking it easy! biked today rather than running!! took a lot of effort to restrain myself but I did it!

  2. Your grandma is so cute and really looks 20 years younger than she is. A lot of people say that, but yours takes the cake. My Grandparents throw classy parties too, and I always feel way out of my league. Waiters and waitresses and a bar tender are just so cool. I’m flying to see my Grandma this Wednesday, and I haven’t seen her in over a year, so you just made me really excited!
